Kelham Rood

Regarded as one of the most significant works of religious art in the 20th century, the Kelham Rood was the central feature and crowning glory of Kelham Chapel.

It is the work of English sculptor Charles Sargeant Jagger (1885–1934) who, following active service in the First World War, sculpted many works on the theme of war.

‘It is Christ as seen by a man who had survived the Dardanelles campaign, both physically and spiritually, though not without difficulty.’
Father Stephen Bedale SSM
